Alabama’s Electric Blue Yonder leads with catchy rhythms and long-form musical story-telling for a decidedly recognizable sense of identity by introducing a boldly unique duo of folk singers, songwriters, and composers of inspirational and creatively free design through “Mourning Sounds.”
Electric Blue Yonder, America’s Space Folk Ensemble, is a brave husband and wife duo of explorers hunting out Sonic Sensations and Vital Vibrations distributed throughout the Earth and Humanity. They send their discoveries through space and time to reach you with a nostalgic touch of 60s folk, surf, and psychedelic mixed with love into a modern sound worth exploring.
The band is now based in Montgomery, Alabama, where they are working on their second full-length record at Technical Earth Recorders, after touring extensively in the United States in 2019 and releasing “Between Space & Time” on Leap Day (09/29/2021).
Brilliant rhythms, a recognizable yet attractive theme that develops momentum for a story that organically appeals for its images, all while Electric Blue Yonder’s coupled vocals have such a nice texture and expressive tone.
The song has a nostalgic presence that travels through portions with confidence and purpose, and it builds up effectively. The verse depicts a character on the go, the pre-chorus rises with a 60’s folk-rock spirit of all of us, and then we return to the riff’s basic swagger and those short lines.
The framework and build-up of the overall arrangement, as well as the story-telling, are excellent. The details drag you in as these quiet moments allow the vocal to hook up for its emotional closeness. Then we get the unexpected, appealingly hooky illumination as things climax – a moment of simple, poetic resolve and repeat – which delivers a stylish and reasonably classic hit of melodic satisfaction that’ll keep listeners coming back for more.
