The Oklahoma City’s rapper, multi-instrumentalist, and composer, J French, tosses up his latest piece of music entitled “EXOTIC FLOWERS,” which is already hit hard and making waves in the modern hip hop /rap landscape.
J French, a rapper, multi-instrumentalist, and producer from Oklahoma City, has completed what appears to be a lifetime’s worth of music industry experience. Since crafting his first rhyme to Devin The Dude’s “Don’t Wait” at the age of 12, he has formed his own publishing company and collaborated with various rappers in the Oklahoma-Texas and Los Angeles scenes, including RC & The Gritz, Erykah Badu’s official band, and members of TDE. Despite everything, J French remains as cool as a cucumber. He rigorously sticks to a self-imposed necessity to create music from the soul. “I’m determined to be heard,” French says.
With some engaging vocal fragments and a mellow yet catchy beat, a little more emotionally engaged thanks to some well-placed moments of melody and varied rhythm.
Despite its familiarity, the song “EXOTIC FLOWERS” has modernism that is wonderful to hear in today’s hip-hop world. The music is straightforward, with a quiet yet powerful pace and a few layers of synths and chords.
At first, the character that comes through verbally is relatively straightforward to assess. However, nothing overtly personal emerges – the observations have a narrative quality to them. J French’s voice tone and the way he delves into the performance give him a sense of self.
The vibe is genuine. The performance appears to be naturally honest, and the musical backdrop is a reasonably appealing and upfront beat. The strength must lie in the vocal delivery to keep things flowing and your interest.
This track is superb, a personal favorite for its musicality and the passion and power of each section. There’s a mellow or more chilled-out pace to the song that lets the storyline weave its details around you compellingly and hypnotically. Meanwhile, the soundscape embraces and calms. “EXOTIC FLOWERS” is a beautifully addictive track.
