Tameeka Byrd’s delightfully hypnotic track “Solo Sessions” brings up impassioned performances and poetic, catchy songwriting in the shape of a peaceful Christian/Neosoul atmosphere and soulfully meandering robotic voice line.

“Solo Sessions” welcomes returning guest Tameeka Byrd. She sings a “rebooted” version of the song written by Earl J Miller entitled “New Creature” (c) 2018

Tameeka is a songwriter, singer, and worship leader. With a love for music, she grew up singing in the choir and later on in her musical journey became one of the student choir directors at UMES. Upon graduating from UMES, she relocated to Maryland from New Jersey to accept the assignment of Psalmist at the Tabernacle of Praise and Worship under the leadership of Bishop Phillip and Pastor Romana Evans, where she has served for the last thirteen years. Tameeka currently still serves at the Tabernacle as an ordained Evangelist, Psalmist, and Executive Administrator.

The brightness that radiates throughout this tune is held securely by the beautiful vocals. As the passion and energy increase, so does the soundscape, bringing in more organic layers. Meanwhile, Tameeka Byrd’s apparent connection to the subject matter and her passionate and honest delivery allow the words and melody to weave something authentic and uplifting around listeners.

“Solo Sessions” is a peaceful and motivating record that blends Tameeka Byrd’s highly expressive tone and character, presented here in a stream of consciousness form as merely aimed to inspire, with a simple, dreamlike backdrop and plenty of space. It introduces the attentive and rightfully faithful quality of the artist’s work with style.

“Solo Sessions” is easily worth more than a single listen and is one of the most honest and illuminating Christian/Neosoul recordings in recent memory. The lyrics have a genuine underpinning as well.

Tameeka Byrd’s vocals are exceptional throughout this well-written ballad. The arrangement is interesting in that it combines a Christian/Neosoul-style robotic voice with a more broadly known arrangement, complete with engaging instrumentation – all of which leads you to feel that a live performance would be spectacular.
