A strong and effortlessly catchy hook sticks out on this latest release from Kansas City’s Alternative hip-hop artist JustRo. Before this point, the single “Inside My Head” provides a distinctly surreal and fascinating background, alongside which the artist’s lyricism and vocal style convey a peaceful yet engaging plot – one that allows the mind to wander as escapism intensifies.

It’s significantly more remarkable than it appears on the first listen because the two-minute twenty-four Alternative hip-hop release is becoming increasingly innovative.

The production is brimming with individuality, and the sound is instantly recognized — new, intense, and intriguing. The vocal is straightforward yet effective, and it is firmly based on a strong sense of individuality.

In this track, the story-telling is exceptionally well-done and engaging. In particular, the second half of the song demonstrates a sense of relevance and story development that deftly pays homage to the great Alternative hip-hop artists of yesteryear while remaining contemporary.

While the hook is a little more conventional, current, and easy to recognize and feel, the verses see the artist take a detour down a road that is really noteworthy and amazing. These bars hold your attention from beginning to end; the intricacies become more interesting as the song progresses; and throughout, the flow is unwavering and never fails to hit the mark.

The track’s beat and overall movement are clear selling points, and it sounds fantastic as far as contemporary hip hop is concerned right now. There’s a refreshing feeling of clarity and intention to the whole thing, which is a pleasant change of pace.

Then there’s the lyrical delivery — JustRo maintains a calm and confident demeanor throughout, pausing only to take a few deep breaths.

The chord progression on this track pops out a little more than you’d often find on an ordinary Alternative hip hop release, which is a good thing.

In addition to adding variety to the rhythm, it also fills the space with color and musical intention. You will notice that this component of the soundscape remains relatively consistent throughout.
